Contradictions about the aim of the new migratory measures, applied in the country starting yesterday, arise by the authorities of the national Government.
And it is the Minister of public safety, Alexis Bethancourt, said that the reduction of the permanence of foreigners coming from Venezuela, Colombia and Nicaragua has nothing to do with the criminal cases that have been in the country, to which some migrants have been linked.
Bethancourt, however, added that the new migratory measures applied to the three above mentioned nationalities will be reinforced with preventive operations to ensure its effectiveness.
However, there are sectors that raise that with this new strategy it will not solve the problem of insecurity or nor other social problems affecting the country.
For Luis Eduardo Camacho, spokesman for the former President Ricardo Martinelli, these new migratory controls will very poorly solve the main problems affecting Panamanians, such as insecurity.
According to Dichter & Neira in the May survey, 43% of respondents considered insecurity as the main problem that affects them, so it went up 13 percentage points compared to the month of April, when it stood at 30%.
"The main problem of Panamanians, insecurity, demands for the so-called authorities to fight crime in an efficient way, and for that it is required a task of deep and scientific intelligence that allows us to walk one step ahead of criminals," said Camacho.
However, he added that it is really unlikely that insecurity in the country will lower, since the so-called authorities are concentrated in political persecution.
Meanwhile, experts have pointed out that if these new measures are not applied in the best way, nothing will help to solve the social problems that have emerged with the arrival of thousands of migrants to Panamanian soil.
In recent days, Panama has been involved in a wave of violent events which include robberies, kidnappings and murders, in which migrants have been involved.
Cases such as the murder of Tatiana Lorenzo Boyd in the cafeteria of a hospital in Punta Pacifica and the theft of a Rolex watch a citizen in parking lots of a shopping mall by two Venezuelans aboard a motorcycle are crimes that are not common in Panama.
Meanwhile, earlier this year, two Venezuelans were arrested after stealing at gunpoint a pick-up vehicle at a residence at the sector of El Coco, in La Chorrera.
