Empty promises, insecurity, proposals being imposed without consultation, as well as the high cost of living, among others issues, have led to the wake-up of citizens that, through a call for protest, expect to get favorable answers.
As a proof of this, this coming Wednesday they will be meeting to protest against the increase on the vehicle registration costs, which has been imposed by the Authority of Traffic and Land Transportation (ATTT).
For February 2, another demonstration has also been planned to demand answers for issues that impact and concern the Panamanian population.
For the teachers´ leader Yadira Pino, the Panamanian society kept waiting for some time, while giving an opportunity to the Government of President Juan Carlos Varela and his team to demonstrate their capacity to govern, since they started their term in office assuring that theirs would be a consultative government.
However, for the teachers´ leader, in these two and a half years of administration they have shown who they really are.
She considers that President Varela in his last speech tried to say that things would be solved through constitutional reforms, which for Pino means that once more these will be tailor-made to fit his interests.
"The President cannot hide that there is a nationwide discontent, the Panamanian society is experiencing the same old problems and has not seen any solution as yet", she said.
Pino said that the people should understand that when leaders do not play their role and do not do their job, they have to feel the pressure from the population that elected them.
Meanwhile, for Enrique Montenegro, of the Anti-corruption Front, these manifestations are a warning to the authorities for all the measures with no consultation that have been imposed and for the lack of transparency.
"It's a wake-up call that the Government should pay attention to with due care if they want to prevent all these protests from taking place in time, since these actions can affect the entire economy", he warned.
Montenegro agreed that President Varela sold the image that his was a Government of dialogue.
