In recent months, the layoffs or reduction of jobs in different sectors of the economy have intensified due to various reasons, and experts say that in the coming months, the situation could worsen.
It is sectors such as construction, agriculture, tourism, casinos, private enterprise and logistics, among others, such as banking and services, which have not yet revealed figures.
With this matches the total unemployment rate, which includes the unemployed, which increased 4.8% to 5.1% in 2015, they have done or not to seek work efforts.
Likewise, the international company specializing in human resources Manpower revealed that for the second quarter of 2016 decreased by four percentage points the expectation of hiring entrepreneurs in Panama, compared to the same period of 2015, when it stood at 17%.
The different figures are reflected in the construction sector. Elisa Suarez, executive director of the National Council of Housing Promoters (Convivienda), said the state bureaucracy has led to the construction stops generating 64,000 jobs.
"Two years ago we hired about 200 thousand people, but today that number has been reduced to 136,000 by this situation," said Suarez.
A similar case occurs in the agricultural sector, where due to lack of incentives for the authorities, excessive imports and drought, labor has decreased. Currently, they have stopped planting more than 35,000 hectares, according to the president of the Association of Producers of Highlands, Augusto Jimenez.
Another sector that does not escape the reality is tourism. According to the president of the Panamanian Association of Hotels (Apatel), Sara Pardo, in the last six months they have lost about 4,000 jobs across the country.
Pardo ensures that jobs are given according to the hotel occupancy has fallen by the lack of promotion, but if these have diminished, fewer people used to try to control the return. The return of a hotel is representing 40% of revenue.
Official statistics say the average hotel occupancy in 2015 was 52.3%, but hoteliers say that this percentage does not reflect reality.
Hotels have had to lower their prices by up to 30%, while the more luxurious hotels are being forced even close, so anticipate more layoffs.
Casinos have also had several layoffs since last year, when they reported the reduction of 1,200 workers nationwide.
As hoteliers, casino owners have announced that layoffs will increase by decreasing the players.
The reason is Law 27 of May 4, 2015, consisting of the 5% withholding tax to finance the increase to retirees and pensioners of the Social Security Fund.
Meanwhile, the private sector had a drop of 4,783 jobs, explained the economist John Jované, who believes that in 2015, unemployment was one of the worst problems.
The Manzanillo port workers were others who reported mass layoffs cause wrongful even indicated that there was pressure to sign mutual agreement.
These are joined by those of port employees Panama Ports Company (PPC), who claimed that the total layoffs since February 5, 2016 was 400.
Reports of the Comptroller of the Republic of Panama show that between August 2014 and August 2015 there were sectors where employment fell, mainly as construction, where there are 197 -22 000 job positions in agriculture and -11 000 738 in administrative / professional, about 8,331 less.
Job placement specialist René Quevedo said that there is a glut hotel and casinos oversaturation of the market, so it is expected that adjustments are given, while in the ports are outsourcing services.
Quevedo said that Panama does not escape the regional and global reality.
He recalled that a year has been taking a decrease in economic activity in the region, a -3.4%, which will continue in 2016, "which will undoubtedly affect regional trade and therefore traffic the Canal", he said.
