Amid the crisis facing the Supreme Court (CSJ), its judges try washing the face of this state body trying to resume high-profile cases, such as the processes that have been opened against former President Ricardo Martinelli.
This situation was denounced by many connoisseurs of law as general exprocurador Rogelio Cruz, who said that "there are obvious contradictions reflect an absurd criteria and do not recognize the right because all processes are unconstitutional," thus giving light to an external intervention .
And it is that the critical situation facing the highest court of justice in Panama lies not only in the open interference of President Juan Carlos Varela in the decisions of the Court, but also the judges themselves have engaged in a pitched battle between groups, which they have arisen complaints of all kinds.
They have also been serious allegations of lack of transparency and offers to elect the president of the Supreme Court, which led to several complaints against those governing the justice system, and that has led to the formulation of complaints to the Committee on Credentials National Assembly.
However, the crisis seems to splash the Legislature, which has adopted a stance of "non-aggression" against judges, as noted by several civic sectors, including members of this House.
Only yesterday, the PRD deputy Zulay Rodriguez denounced that there is a rattling promoted by Congressman Jose "Popi" Varela, the president's brother, intending to file complaints against the judges of the Court.
The deputy said on Radio San Miguelito Panama that judges should be judged by the accusatory penal system (SPA), to constitute several illegalities and poor transparency.
Since the National Assembly has also been questioned executive interference in the decisions of the Court; in this regard, the independent deputy Ana Matilde Gómez repudiated pressures in appointing judges who were appointed earlier this year.
Recognize faults
This situation was acknowledged in an open letter by Justice Harry Diaz, who revealed that there are deep flaws in the justice system.
"My outrage is not due to a personal interest in being president of the Supreme Court, repeatedly mentioned that the position of president does not interest me," said the judge, noting that the judiciary "in crisis" and has witnessed a profound conflict since before choosing the new president of the Court
