Former bodyguards in the Gucci case will ask confrontation

Records of phone calls, audio and video tapes submitted to the Public Ministry (MP), by the former bodyguards of the former minister of Social Development (Mides), Zulema Sucre, are part of the evidence that the fifth anti-corruption Prosecutor would be dismissing aimed to protect the former government functionary.

This was denounced by lawyer Roniel Ortiz, who explained that these former officials (who had been forced to walk a pet dog of the former Minister) have not yet been given the right of a test compliance to demonstrate the facts, such as is the abuse of power by the former minister.

"There is evidence of videos, chats and verbal orders that were given to the three bodyguards," said the jurist in an energetic tone.

On the same matter, the former functionary´s statement has been used as an argument that there is no evidence that Sucre ordered their bodyguards to walk her dog Gucci. "We have requested a visual inspection, but it has not been complied," reiterated lawyer Ortiz.

This is so in spite of the fact that the bodyguards have declared the hours and the way in which they were asked to treat the pet, as well as the social events to which the former minister´s daughters had to be driven such as parties and dance clubs.

By their part, the former bodyguards indicate that during her interrogation, Zulema Sucre said that "the dog that is being walked by Italo Schadsmith is not hers", which would be a lie.

"She focuses throughout all her statement on the alleged fact that Ney Rodríguez is responsible to turn the other two bodyguards against her", says one of those involved.

The former minister also says she counts on a "star witness’s support, who is another colleague, who worked as her chauffeur, and was fired in the PRD government due to administrative errors. “He was the former minister´s domestic employee," says the source.

Today he lends money, "but Zulema Sucre did not like that situation and prohibited him to engage in this activity in the institution premises and made sure he remained in a fixed place watching her car".

Her defense, on the other hand, said that they will request a confrontation among the three bodyguards and Zulema Sucre´s domestic employee, today appointed to lend service to the secretary general of Mides, Cosme Moreno.

"This gentleman is the witness that Zulema Sucre kept under pressure so that he would supposedly declared that none of us walked Gucci", affirmed the bodyguard.

Permissive measure

On Monday night, the fifth anti-corruption prosecutor, Enereida Barrias, issued a precautionary measure to Zulema Sucre consisting in the prohibition of leaving the country and an obligation of appearing in court once a month.

This took place after three of the bodyguards of the former minister denounced before the anti-corruption tsarina, Angélica Maytín, they had been forced to walk the former minister´s pet.

However, the complainants argue that after they refused to carry out these functions that were not part of their duties, the former minister ordered their dismissals.

Marino Zuniga, one of Sucre´s former bodyguards, also reiterated during his appearance in court that the former minister forced them to babysit her daughters during the Carnivals.
