The lawyers of former President Ricardo Martinelli closed ranks, and at a press conference, reported that they are being persecuted by government institutions for exercising the profession.
This conference led to groups like the Lawyers Movement Guilders to rule and request the Government cease these persecutions.
This was stated by the attorney Alfonso Fraguela, president of MAG.
Alma Cortés, lawyer of former President Martinelli and president in charge of CD party, said it was an example of this persecution, noting that has undergone two audits by the General Directorate of Revenue (DGI) and as a result has been fined.
She also commented that the persecutions have also been made effective by the Comptroller General and the Public Ministry have been instructed where records have been unsuccessful.
She said that the persecution has come to their families when their children are objects of harassment to take to the streets, and if recently received a threatening message on a note which did arrive when he was in a diploma at the University Santa Maria Antigua (USMA).
The same lawyer said Luis Eduardo Camacho, son of former Secretary of State Communication and spokesman for the CD.
"I was one of the first people whom the government pointed its guns, but I have proved my innocence of all the phase that was mounted against me, but since there have silenced the voice of my father, have sought to open new investigations," Camacho said.
Dimas Guevara, a former senior prosecutor and lawyer Matinelli said that these actions being committed against former president's lawyers are an open attack on the exercise of the profession.
International court
Meanwhile, the lawyer Sydney Sitton, also part of the defense Martinelli revealed that these irregularities have already been brought to the attention of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (CIDH).
He added that the agency asked "a number of documents and information, which takes a week and a half is the supply".
Sitton said that also explained that in Panama, the administration of turn "chasing lawyers" solely for exercising their profession.
"What they forget is that in three years they will be immersed in a similar situation and they will want their rights and respect for due process are the cornerstone of any cases that they will perform," said the lawyer.
"We condemn strongly that a lawyer be achieved ... That violates human rights because everyone has the right to be represented with dignity," he said.
