The Supreme Court decided not to quash  a sentence imposed against the newspaper El Panama America and journalists Gustavo Aparicio and Jean Marcel Cherry, for a publication of March 2001. The fact has been regarded as a measure of persecution against media that do not follow the line of the current government.

This sentence ordered to pay $20,000 plus costs by $5000 to the newspaper and journalists to compensate the exmagistrado Winston Spadafora, who argued as offensive news of El Panama America, which stated that with the resources of the Social Investment Fund (FIS) was adapted a road on La Arenosa at La Chorrera, where the former official had a farm.

The ruling of the Civil Chamber had as rapporteur vice president of the Court, Hernán De León and magistrates Oyden Ortega and Harley Mitchell, who signed on December 30, a day before leaving the office of judge.

Spadafora was represented in the case by Jaime Abad, who recently confessed that he advises the Public Prosecutor in the proceedings against former officials of the previous government.

This is the second strike in a week the current government against the media who do not follow their line. Recently, the Electoral Tribunal fined $ 1,000 to the radios KW Continente.
