Authorities ask to dismiss Stanziola based on PAN's irregularities

The National Authority of Transparency and Access to Information (Antai) confirmed yesterday that so far in administration of Juan Carlos Varela there are irregularities in National Assistance Program (PAN) procurement and contracts, equal to those committed in the past that are part of the reasons that government officials are facing various proceedings before the Public Ministry (MP).

The director of the anticorruption entity, Angelica Maytín, said yesterday that in the moment that she took the office an entrepreneur came to her to report irregularities in the PAN led by Rafael Stanziola, so she ordered a forensic audit that ended up in nine proceedings and in which the crime division of matter is confirmed.

He said that complaints are focused on the purchase of heavy equipment for the Ministry of Housing and Land Management (Miviot) Hopes Roofs Program of and in which the favored company is Airco SA , owned by Pedro "Peter" Vallarino Trombetta.

"Peter" Vallarino is a personal friend of President Juan Carlos Varela, and his company Airco suspiciously enrolled in the PAN earlier this administration. Since then he has made millions in direct purchases in the PAN.

Maytín said that last year , she and her team met with Stanziola to " confront him and express him what was found on division of matter ", after theaudit reports based on the PAN itself.

"Our recommendations to the comptroller were: Miviot must suspend all purchases through the PAN, because they violate the provisions in the interagency agreement, particularly in Article 6. We said we had to call for public tenders, we said that there were to avoid the division of matter and that the penalty for this was the dismissal on the administrative side" Maytín said, noting that would have to see what kind of penalties involves the irregularity from the penalty area.

The director said that he will be reiterating to the comptroller the existence of this audit against the PAN and also inform the Minister of the Presidency, Alvaro Alemán.

"An institution like the DAS should only be used for contingencies and not for state projects as Hope Roofs. We regret that the law of the DAS has not been consulted. The DAS should serve only to contingency " reiterated the anti-corruption director , Angelica Maytín .
